May 4, 200817 yr 96 2.2 impreza outback On the passengers side strut mount there is a selonoid that has 3 vacuum lines going to/from it. Then, under the intake and near the egr valve is another selonoid. This one is identical to the one on the passengers strut mount except that instead of a hose, it has a small black round air filter thing on one of the hose inlets. Which one of these is the egr selonoid? or are they both?
May 4, 200817 yr the one by the EGR valve (drivers side) is the EGR solenoid. the other, on the passengers side strut tower, is a "pressure switching solenoid" or something like that.
May 4, 200817 yr Author ok thanks now I just wait and see if the CEL comes back on. I went to a junkyard and got every little doo-hickey in the egr system and swapped it all out with my original stuff.
May 4, 200817 yr doohickeys are awesome, life savers no doubt! the small inline filter..about the size of a quarter in diameter is a good replacement item. follow all the vacuum lines from that passengers side solenoid. one of them will have a filter in line with it, usually under about the intake hose close to the engine. replace that filter - they're about $7 from subaru and can cause EGR codes. being a filter, not a bad idea to replace anyway.
