  1. Parting out a car is a huge pain in the butt, people will waste your time and you'll have a wrecked car sitting in your yard for a year. Same deal trying to sell it. LOL that's what I want to avoid. I'll wait to hear what they wanna sell it to me for. I was thoroughly surprised that they offered me $6884 + 7% sales tax $482 + $20 title fee. Total $7384. to settle the claim. That number is before rental car and tow fee... which they will also pay.
  2. Here's what I bought after my subie was totaled. i wanted a lot of horsepower so i got a Taurus SHO with the performace package. Wow, with 365hp, this thing is amazing. I can't wait to come up on a wrx sti. I think that'll be a fun race!
  3. Hey guys. Recently i was rear ended and pushed into the car ahead of me in my 06 impreza 2.5i. The insurance company deemed it totaled but the appraiser said there was no frame damage. The car is a one owner (we bought it new) with 105k miles. It still starts, runs and drives. The radiator was punctured so it cannot be run for more than a few seconds or heat damage might occur. The rear didn't receive much damage surprisingly. A new owner could just fix the front and have a great newish awd car! I have a chance to buy it from the insurace company or just let tm take it. The title is georgia and NOT salvage. It is clear. Should I let the insurance company take it or keep it and try to sell it? I don't want to part it out but i would sell it as a whole. Thoughts? Thanks!
  4. Hey folks, my 06 impreza 2.5i is coming up on 105k miles and I'd like to get the timing belt service done. Can anyone recommend a shop around Atlanta? Thanks!
  5. Hi folks I'm tired of my 06 imprezas overly sensitive (USELESS) ABS system. in the winter of 2010 it did cause me to rear end a car. That accident is still causing me to be surcharged on my insurance. That's costing me $100's of extra bucks each year.. thanks SUBARU! The other day I almost hit another car! The ABS just comes on and chatters away until IT feels like IT wants to stop. I hate to have to havemy damn hand on the e-brake everytime I come to a stop. WHAT CAN I DO? I've heard of an ECU flash or pulling the fuse. Who has done which and what do you recommend?
  6. I sold both the subarus already. They went fast! I would have loved to get a BAJA suby but used ones are just too expensive for me. I could always turn it into a baja like the one Durania posted! I'm really loving this Safari. The 190hp engine has got balls for days. I just drove it to Pa to pick up some stuff. I put at least 1/2 ton of goodies in the van. It rode nice and had plenty of power. MPG isn't great but MPG was not really a concern I had. I wanted a powerful engine, AWD, tons of towing & cargo capacity... MPG be damned! It has a tow/haul tranny mode too. The safari towing capacity is 6000 lbs!
  7. Thanks. I grew up in gorham / westbrook area! Do you remember the HOB KNOB bar near SD warren?
  8. One thinhg you will need to do is to use PB blaster or some type of penetrating oil on the 3 screws that holed the filler neck in. Reach up behind the gas cap area and spray them from the back side. Mine were rusted in and took a lot of coaxing to get them out. Many folks end up drilling them out because the phillips head screw strips.
  9. I picked up a nice 2000 GMC Safari SLE AWD. It's loaded and only has 39k miles. It even has rear A/C and heat. If anyone wants to buy my subarus (97 legacy sedan & 96 impreza outback sport), give me a shout. Cheap subies in upstate NY.
  10. How did this work out for you? did the check engine light go off after you fixed the filler tube?
  11. Don't be afraid to tackle the brakes yourself. It takes almost no mechanical ability to put new pads in either the front or the rear of a subaru. It's so easy! Did they replace the timing belt tensioner & rollers, water pump, cam shaft seals or crankshaft seals when they did the timing belt? Other than the small investment in parts, there's no reason not to do those things when doing a timing belt. How did you spend $50 on repairing a DIY fuel filler leak? $50 would buy a lot of JB weld. My front brakes weren't releasing fully causing premature pad wear. It was as simple as replacing the calipers. Ask for "loaded calipers" so the pads are already installed in the calipers. 2 bolts and the brake line. That's it. Another very easy job.
  12. Wny not have a tinting place tint the rear windows with really dark limo tint?
  13. Wouldn't this test take about 10k miles off your clutches lifespan?! I wouldn't do that test unless you want to kill your clutch even worse than it already is. I had a 73 VW camper bus that used to pop out of 4th gear. I found a great solution... a bungee cord wrapped around the shifter! When I got it in 4th gear I would just attach the other side of the bungee cord and be good to go! It would stay in high gear with just a little pressure exerted by the bungee cord. This was a much nicer alternative to holding the shifter down on long drives.
  14. The tires were purchased in may of 2009 and were used for under 1000 miles. I doubt if any issues were caused in that little use.
  15. Thanks for the clarification. yup it's definitely a 97. I found out why it's leaking gas. The dirt was completely caked in between the filler pipe and the plastic shield. No wonder it rusted. Does anyone here have a good use filler pipe for a 97 legacy sedan?
  16. It is a 5 spd manual. It shifts fine and the clutch seems ok too. I do need to get 2 new tires on the back that match the front tires. From paperwork in the glove box, I found out that the car was auctioned off because the previous owner was not paying his child support. NY state seized it in May 2009. They don't mess around with dead beat dads. The state just seizes their stuff! Pearlm30 - I don't know what a "MY 95 or 96" is. Suzam - I thought all 2.2L subaru engines were non-interference? What makes the 97 an interference engine?
  17. I finally picked it up today and was pleasantly surprised. It runs like a top and drives nicer than my 96 OBS! It is filthy though. Inside and out. Tomorrow, I'm renting a rug doctor and will go crazy on the interior. It has 2 new tires on the front (walmart receipt in the glove box). The fuel filler neck leaks gas right at the bottom down near the tank and behind that metal shield. I'm going to clean it real well and see if I can repair it. Otherwise, I'll buy a new or used one and install it. The check engine light is on. It runs great though. I'll have to look into that and see what it needs. Could it be on because of the fuel leak?
  18. the flashing AT light shouldn't have anything to do with how the cars engine runs.
  19. There was a semi local auction held yesterday. Many cars and trucks were sold. They also allowed live online bidding. It was fun listening to the auctioneer and just clicking my mouse when I wanted to bid. Me and 1 other person were bidding on this. I thought I was gonna get it for $100 but then he started to bid. I got it for $400. They would start every car and you could hear it run through the computer speakers. So, at least I know it runs! I don't know much else about it except that it's a 97 legacy with 175k miles. It doesn't look too rusty. I think it will have the 2.2L unless it's a GT. I hope that's not a dent on the hood lip. Maybe it's a clean spot or a reflection?!
