  1. Did they tell you the CEL was on before you went to look at it? If not, that's kinda cheesy. It sounds like you have some MAJOR bargaining power with all those obvious issues. Especially, the 2 CEL codes, unknown TB replacement, leaky valve covers, broken windshield and possible bad wheel bearings. That's a lot of fixing!!! They know it's got a bunch expensive issues or they'd still be driving it. Offer em $2900 as/is and see what happens.
  2. from reading horror stories on here... make sure you test drive it for a good 30-60 miles to make sure no HG symptoms show up. It seems many people take short test drives, buy the car and then soon realize the HGs are shot. a 2.5L with 125k miles... I can't imagine the HGs haven't already been replaced or will soon need replacing.
  3. cool thanks! They have a fat beefy look unlike the thin sporty look of so many wheels today.
  4. I love the look of these wheels on an OBS. Put some big, white lettered AT tires on em and the car would look tough! I would like to know what model and years these wheels came on so I can find some at the local JY. Are they 15" or 14"? Thanks!
  5. The hood scoop on the 97 and later obs's look cool. After 96 also got the cool "outback sport" graphics on the rear passengers doors. Those two things make the OBS look much better. The 96 and earlier obs are kind of bland looking.
  6. Congrats! They're great little cars. You'll love it! I picked mine up on ebay. 96 obs w/180k. It came with a nice 50w x 4 JVC radio that plays mp3's on CDR and has an input jack on the faceplate for an ipod or XM radio. The car needed a bunch of work that I did myself. I put a trailer hitch and the roof carrier on it too. I've got about $1700 total into it. I really like it!
  7. Interesting reading on all those links. My 180k 96 obs shudders when I make a slow tight turn. It doesn't seem to be that big of a deal though. It's not like I'm constantly driving on bare tar & doing tight circles. When I'm on a snowy road and I floor it... all 4 wheels immediately dig in. No lag. I do have 2 different brands of same sized tires (plenty of tread left on all) on the front and rear and I have no idea how long my ATF has been in my tranny. I guess I should buy 4 brand new tires and have my ATF flushed.
  8. I also miss the cool little "car" on the dash that would show which door was open and other pertinent info. That was a neat feature! In 88 they had both the auto shifter and the cool car on the dash! Ahhh, the good old days
  9. I agree. It does look a lot like the 08 wrx... which also looks like the mid 2000's mazda 3 and probably a few other cars. The wrx used to stand out in a crowd.
  10. No doubt! All that new stuff can make a car with 180k miles freel like it's only got 30k miles.
  11. Why'd they do away with that on later model imprezas? 1st pic is a lowly 93 impreza L and the 2nd pic is a 97 impreza outback sport (auto). You'd think as the cars get newer they'd ADD more gadgets instead of take em away. My 96 obs doesn't have it. I find myself looking at the shifter a lot to make sure I'm not in 3rd instead of drive.
  12. the 1/2 tooth thing is normal. These guys have a great pictorial on ej22 Tbelt replacement. http://www.subaruvanagon.com/tom/Timing%20Belt.htm
  13. I bought replacement rotors at autozone for the rear of my 96 OBS. I put em on easy and they work great. You guys who crap on cheap replacement parts must be RICH. A $28 rotor coupled with new pads is going to last for a long long time. I think slotted/drilled rotors and ceramic pads on a suby (other than a wrx or sti that's often driven hard) is super overkill... especially for a non agressive driver
  14. congrats on getting it fixed All the parts come in a kit on ebay for $200. Unless you make substantially more than $100 an hour at your job, it might make financial sense to take a day or 2 off from work and do the job yourself ...next time. You can do it in 10 hours or less... effectively paying yourself $100 an hour.
  15. Excellent $5,330 Good $4,830 Fair $4,200 Kbb (which is usually high anyway) says his price is high. It sounds like a great car that has already had all the issues taken care of. Maybe... $4000?
  16. I agree. I wouldn't dump $2500 into the car. $1000... yes... if it took care of all the problems at once.
