  1. In one place they used metal tubes to route the lines under the throttle cables. I used zip ties to hold the lines away from anything hot or moving objects. thanks
  2. Thanks - A few months ago I put all new vacuum lines on it. When I did that I eliminated the partial metal lines... thinking they could be bad. I just went around them with the new rubber lines. Driving it today (after zip tying all the vacuum line ends) and the CEL is still on. If the problem is fixed does the CEL go off on its own or do I have to reset it myself and wait to see if it comes back on... signifying the problem still exists? The only thing I have not done is remove the EGR and clean it. I did suck on the vacuum line going to the EGR (while the car was running) and the engine idled down quite a bit. That tells me it is working properly right? But it may still need cleaning? The po400 code came immediately after I washed the engine compartment with a hose about 4 months ago. I don't know if that had anything to do with it... but it was very coincidental timing.
  3. thanks guys... I just realized that most of the new vacuum lines I put on haven't been sealing well around their nipples. I just put a zip tie on every single vacuum line on the EGR system. Maybe that'll do it? This thing has more vacuum lines and doo-hickeys than any car I've seen. There's two things on the passengers fire wall, one thing right under the passengers side intake manifold, one thing under the drivers side intake manifold, the little filter, the back pressure transducer and the EGR valve... and they're all interconnected! It seems with the po400 code, a person would have to change each thing (one at a time) then reset the code, drive it and see if the code comes back. If it comes back, then buy the next little thing and go through the same process... over and over.
  4. yes, there's one on the strut and another identical switch under the intake manifold on the drivers side.
  5. Where can I get one of these? The local parts stores don't have em. How much are they? I'm still getting the PO400 CEL code. I've replaced both vacuum selonoid switches (1 on the passengers wheel well and the other is under the intake manifold) and I've replaced the transducer. The parts were all used from a junktard... so they may have been bad too. I've blown out the little round filter too. The CEL is still on. The car runs great but gets 14mpg. I don't drive the car much so it hasn't been a big deal so far. I need to go on a 750 mile trip and want to get this fixed before leaving so I don't waste a ton of gas. thanks
  6. thanks for the info! It looks like a dealer job for me. Should I expect to spend $600-$800 to replace both rear wheel bearings or just the one bad one? That's a lot of money but I'm not equipped to do it myself. thanks
  7. ... 04 impreza TS wagon. Passengers side rear is howling, grinding and the wheel has play when pulled back and forth. I've never done this repair and was wondering if it's something I can do in a parking lot with minimal tools and the stock jack??? Or is it better left to the dealer when I do the 60k mile service next week?
  8. ok thanks now I just wait and see if the CEL comes back on. I went to a junkyard and got every little doo-hickey in the egr system and swapped it all out with my original stuff.
  9. 96 2.2 impreza outback On the passengers side strut mount there is a selonoid that has 3 vacuum lines going to/from it. Then, under the intake and near the egr valve is another selonoid. This one is identical to the one on the passengers strut mount except that instead of a hose, it has a small black round air filter thing on one of the hose inlets. Which one of these is the egr selonoid? or are they both?
  10. It may be worth the money but it sounds like a high price nonetheless. You're talking about an 11 year old car for $8900. That's a lot! In 2 years with an additional 20k miles on it, what will you be able to sell it for? $4500 maybe? My friend just bought an beautiful 04 impreza TS with 50k miles for $9900 at a dealer.I love my 96 impreza outback w/180k miles. I've got about $1600 total in it. whoops - just realized how old this thread was!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. thanks. I'm checking with him about the offset. I don't want to drive 1 hour round trip to pick em up and find out these wheels won't even fit my suby. I'd like to know before I pick em up. thanks again!
  12. http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2237191250047935481UMLASX ad says... Set of four 5 X 100, 14" American Racing wheels. 14mm offset. They have tires of unknown history. I'm told these may fit a Subaru.
  13. that's a lot of money for the priviledge of a driving a car. We'll never buy another new car again.
  14. Mullet, iron maiden, mudding in a brat... you sound like a cool dude Jeff! if you bring your folks or anyone else in to buy a suby... make sure the dealer gives you a finders fee. Here at our local deal that fee is $500 per car! The dealer writes you a check for bringing them a new customer. Ask them about it. The only thing that sucks about any new car is the monthly payments and more expensive mandatory full coverage insurance. We've been paying $411 a month + about $75 a month for insurance on our new 06 impreza 2.5i. Payments truly suck rump roast.
  15. this is the ad I had originally posted. The owner updated the ad to include the HG info. At first owner said it overheats, he didn't know why and decided to sell it. Nice looking car! I offered him $1000. I think that's why he added the "please no low ballers" line. http://albany.craigslist.org/car/603979512.html
  16. would a 96 OBS have the needed wiring already in place? I don't know if the OBS even came with a heated seat option.
  17. http://albany.craigslist.org/car/601850552.html It's sad that the HG's are such an issue for the 2.5L engines.
  18. agreed. My 93 taurus wagon did the same thing... granted it's not a suby but it was a fwd with struts. The strut mount was worn. I was told it was not dangerous... only annoying because of the clunk. Find an empty parking lot, put the hood up, have someone walk next to the car while holding their hand on top of the strut shock... I'm betting they'll either see movement of the strut or feel the clunk.
  19. Good lookin wagon! Thanks for the pic but it's too small! Can you post a bigger one of the wheels on the car? I'll trade you my 15.2 mpg for your 23 anyday!
