  1. i'd pass on the 05 since your 96 is all set now. The 96 will last you a bunch of years too and it probably doesn't have a FAT payment book like the 2005 will.
  2. I got my sticker! My $931 ebay OBS is now legal! I love this car. Thanks for the help guys. Here's our subies ...06 & 96
  3. im just bummed that it looks like a mazda 3 subaru could have done so much better with the styling

  5. i dont really understand... whats an IM readiness monitor? Are you saying that only the 96s dont hold codes? If the cel light is off, I don't think they;d even bother plugging in the tester. If the cel is on they immediately fail you and charge you the fees anyway.
  6. I removed that little filter today. I blew it out both ways with low pressure air and reinstalled. I probably ruined it doing that. I need to get an inspection stick ASAP so I don't have time to wait for a new one to arrive. Removed the neg battery cable for 10 mins and started it up. CEL is out for now. At least I can get my sticker. All the rubber vacuum hoses are the consistency of hard plastic. They don't appear to be leaking though .
  7. I don't think the search feature works here. I've tried it on many different things and it always comes back as Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
  8. I used a fairly beefy craftsman rubber strap oil filter type wrench. It worked pretty good.
  9. I put the number in to google too and then got 1stsubaruparts but then couldn't find it on their site. weird.
  10. thanks guys. Im gonna dig into it tomorrow and see what I can find. Is the pcv at all related to the egr system? is that map filter a special subaru part or would autozone have it?
  11. You'll have to get the cam belt covers off and have a look in there. I just did a timing belt repair on my 96 2.2L and replaced all the seals mentioned above. If you have a warm place to work on it and a good set of tools, a "novice" can do the repairs. I think I spent 12 hours total on the job... including new valve cover gaskets. A good mechanic will do it a lot faster though!
  12. 96 obs 2.2L, 180k miles ...getting 17.5 mpg city. CEL came on yesterday. Read code today... PO400 code EGR system fault (would this cause the bad gas mileage?) The ECM has detected too little flow on the EGR system probable causes blocked passage on the EGR system failed EGR valve ($175 new!) EGR selonoid faulty failed egr pressure sensor where applicable failed egr position sensor where applicable What do you guys think I should do next? I've been through this on another car I owned and started buying parts, installing them and hoping it solved the problem. I'd rather not do it that way again because it's random and expensive.
  13. instead of freaking out I'd recommend not taking tight tunrs on dry pavement. The guy says to his doctor... it hurts when I twist my arm like this. The doc says... well, don't twist your arm like that!
  14. yes my car is an OBS with no ashtray or lighter. I tried that link but they dont list "ashtray"
  15. Mine look slike this... I can't believe it doesn't have an ash tray. :-\
  16. I bet youre right! My check engine light just came on tonight. Earlier today I made an appointment for a state inspection sticker ...tomorrow. If I unhook the battery, hook it back up and start the car, will the check engine code go off... at least temporarily?
  17. I offered $450 but no dice. She says she called a junkyard to find out what a complete door would cost and was told $200. So she's probably doing the math... 4 doors x $200 = $800 for just the doors! Then she said she could take it to a metal recycling plant in town and get $300 for it. I have a funny feeling she'll be emailing me an a couple weeks accepting my offer.
  18. No, the T belt blew. The car does not presently run. I'm not sure how she's coming to the conclusion that it just needs a timing belt. I assume she took it for an estimate and they told her that.
  19. http://albany.craigslist.org/car/548699563.html I was thinking I'd buy it if I could get a decent price. Install the timing belt and probably water pump etc and resell it on ebay for a little profit. I'm unsure of the sellers thruthfullness about all the new parts. She sent me a picture of the rust behind the wheel well and I can clearly see the tire and brakes. The tire sure doesn't look like it has 50 miles on it and the caliper is so rusty that I doubt it was ever replaced. What would you offer? I think she's stoned asking $1275 for it. What say you all?
  20. MY GUESS is that the glue will make it worse... it won't dry because it can't get any air and then it'll act like a lubricant. I hope I'm worng. Let us know how it works.
