So i'm finally done...
Bigbusa replied to njdrsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat's a good price on the used parts I think. I got quoted $300 for 4 used forester strut assemblies at the local junkyard. I bet your wagon rides a lot better now!

Head Gasket 2000 Legacy - Warranty
Bigbusa replied to nickb21's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXdo dealers give any kind of warrantee with their HG jobs? From what I've read here, it's not uncommon for them to fail again iin relatively short mileage.

Why I love my Subaru - Part 5,329,754 - or - Snow carnage
Bigbusa replied to heartless's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthat caked on snow will really screw up your wheels balance too.

Go west young man and seek your fortune. But first...
Bigbusa replied to lostinthe202's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have not used theese parts before (haven't needed to) but the seller does have 7000+ positive feedbacks on ebay. He sells A LOT of timing belt kits for many different vehicles. The oil seals are black in color. I've heard from others here that these seals don't last as long as the rust colored seals. My 96 obs had 180k miles on it when I replaced the parts. I highly doubt the seals will start leaking before the car ends up in the junkyard. Time will tell. Maybe other members here will chime in on using these parts vs OEM parts. The parts in the kit even come with a warranty. "All PCI Timing kit come with a 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty."

Darn mice!
Bigbusa replied to sparkydave's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe dead mice will die and dry up within a week or two. Of course, if they die and dry up inside the car... it'll stink for a loooong time. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll die outside the car. It's worth the chance IMO.

Bigbusa replied to lostinthe202's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI put all this in my 96 obs. With shipping it was $202. Parts claim to meet or exceed oem specs. I found the parts to be high quality. You even get valve cover gaskets and grommets. The only thing this kit doesn't come with is a new t-stat and t-stat gasket. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-1996-Subaru-Legacy-Impreza-Master-Timing-Belt-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33625QQihZ013QQitemZ230220516435QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I imagine if you bought all the above parts from subaru they'd cost much more. Maybe twice as much? Would they last twice as long?

How would you tint a new Outback?
Bigbusa replied to absorka's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhi the bard! I live in troy ny. I don't have my windows tinted for that reason. It's also an excuse for a cop to pull you over anytime they want. If I've had a beer, the last thing I want to worry about is getting pulled over and harrassed.

anybody ever gotten a code 106 from a 2.5>2.2 swap
Bigbusa replied to scrapdaddytatum's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI wonder why subaru doesn't offer the 2.2L engine as a cheaper option to the 2.5L on all new cars? It would save them millions on warranty repairs alone.

CEL code - now what?
Bigbusa replied to Bigbusa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXautozones and other places around here won't clear the codes for you. They will read them but that's it.

highest mileage 2.2L engine?

highest mileage 2.2L engine?
What's the highest miles you've ever seen on a 2.2L ? I'm curious how long they can go without needing major work.

The Dreaded Subie Oil Leak... FIXED! Thanks to All!!
Bigbusa replied to four-fleet-feet's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRegarding replacing the head gaskets... if it ain't broke, don't fix it would seem to apply here. You main problem with the car is the oil leak/s right? The leaks are not coming from the valve cover gaskets so you don't have to replace them. Replace them when they are a problem. Maybe you have a friend who will let you use his garage for a few days? That's what I did. Replacing the water pump, 3 oil seals, timing pulleys & cog really isn't that big of a job. And if your water pump seems fine, pulleys and cog seem fine... the job will be even easier and less expensive. You can do this and save yourself a ton of money. I have limited mechanic ability and have NEVER replaced a timing belt. I decided to just dig in and git er done! It was easy.

Bigbusa replied to scrapdaddytatum's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhey guys are the 2.5 engines so bad that it's better to just replace it with a 2.2? Usually people want more power, not less.

CEL code - now what?
Bigbusa replied to Bigbusa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXdiscostu is your MPG really bad now? Mine went down to 15mpg city. I blew out that filter, unplugged the battery to get rid of the CEL and filled the gas tank again. I hope the MPG is better next time I check it. The CEL hasn't come back on in 50 miles of driving.

FIXED Small coolant leak, water pump was going out
Bigbusa replied to outback_97's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWith the new timing belt pulleys and water pump do you notice the engine sounds much quieter when running? Mine is so quiet now that it's hard to hear it running when sitting inside the car.

96 2.5L Legacy Outback oil leak (1qt/20feet)
Bigbusa replied to AZTOAK's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhas the oil filter been replaced recently? I've heard that the old filter seal can stay on the engine when the filter is removed. If the mechanic didn't notice this and put a new oil filter on, you now have 2 gaskets and they will leak big time.
