88 RX. I changed the distributor timing the other day. Thinking I could advance it a little, see if the car liked it better.....It didn't.

So I set it back to 20. Green connectors connected both times. The car still runs horrible. I have a knock sensor code. Sensor seems fine, car still runs bad with it unplugged. The car has zero power. It has muffled front end backfires when trying to accelerate( or even pull out of a parking space) with actual loud backfires occasionally. It is running rich.

You need to re-set the ECU. Either disconnect the battery for about a hour or go thru the re-set procedure here - http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49918
