Featured Replies

Hi. just bought 88k mi soob. any ideas why all that stuff wouldn't be working. car sat in a damp garage for a year. new alternator installed a couple years ago. thx!

damp garage = this

probably need to check ALL the electrical connectors under the hood to start, use electrical contact spray cleaner, and then put Di-electric grease in the connectors.

And watch out for critters

Check to see if the ignition switch is working correctly. There is a white wire that supplies power to the switch and there is a blue wire that is switched power to the fuse panel. There is a connector under the steering column that can be a problem also tied to the switch.

Thanks for the advice. I cleaned electrical connections today. The windows quit because wires going into plugs under driver's seat had corroded completely off. Rewired & windows work! All the electrical contacts under the hood were corroded. Also, I figured the contacts in the wiper switch must be corroded too so I flipped the switch on & off about 50 times fast & the corrosion must have worn off because the wipers now work. I'll check the ignition switch tomorrow.

Thanks again for your help

Mike

Also check the fusible links, I forget exactly where they are on an EA81 car, but they are in a little black box, should be two green and one red, or two red and one green, I can't remember exactly...

Also, be careful with the contact cleaner, some of it is harmful to plastic and will melt your connectors.
