Spin-On Transmission Filter

Featured Replies

Does anyone know where to find an aftermarket spin-on automatic transmission filter for a '99 Legacy Outback? I haven't checked my dealer yet, but will bet it's pricey.

you won't be able to find an aftermarket one. Only from the dealer. However it's not really too necessary to change it. Maybe if you have 100k, it might not be a bad idea to change it. But most of those filters are just screen type filters used to catch any of the big stuff.

Some may call me crazy, but I have been changing it every 30-50k miles. I will have to cut it open next time to see if it is only a screen or if it has some real filtering media. All of the tranny filters I have seen on other makes have had media appearing to be cellulose.

The filter you desire is Subaru part number 38325AA032.

They ARE made in the aftermarket, but I have only been able to find one source for them (and the source that I found is ****TY) Right now, We only use genuine Subaru AT Filters. They seem to work the best. Give me a call at the shop and maybe I can do you a better price than 38.00

Oh Yeah, and one other thing. We are replacing them every 30k as part of the 30k service. Factory says to change them every 30k.
