'86 4X4 GL towing info

Featured Replies

I need help fast! LOL. I just bought an '86 4x4 GL with automatic transmission and I need to tow it home (does not run). What is the proper way to tow it? Can I use a dolly and what precautions do I need to take? TIA. Doug in ABQ

how far do you need to tow it?If under 5 miles it should be fine with a dolly as long as its in Front wheel drive.

8 miles BUT all I see to switch from/to 4 wheel drive is a red button on the auto trans shift lever. If this is electrically controlled and it has a dead battery...if I stick it in neutral and don't push the red button in, am I then in FWD? Thanks, I appreciate your input

bring a 12mm wrench and a pair of vice grips with you. Undo the 4 bolts that hold the rear driveshaft to the differential flange, and you can tow it as far and fast as you want to on a dolly.

I can do that! Thanks for the info.
