On a 90 Legacy,........ never,......because it doesn't have one.

both of my 90's have them. below the battery

Wow you have a remote external ATF filter nar the battery?

Strangely the filter itself is more expensive than the kit.

Hmm.... Learn something new every day.

I swear my 93 didn't have one, but I just looked at a 90, and sure enough there is one there. Never noticed those before.

Time to change it.

The external filter was an add-on kit done by the factory due to a manufacturing issue with the transmission and mean to stop any "bigger" metal objects. It's supposed to be a "lifetime" filter. It's really not a filter, it's just another screen type filter.

Would a aftermarket ATF filter like a power king work as a better replacement.;)
