aussiesubie
Hi all, new to the board and wish to seek advice. I have a 2007 Forester purchased new last May. Last night the heater didn't work and we assumed perhaps the thermostat wasn't working and would have it checked at the local Subie dealer. Then about half an hour later the needle on the temperature gauge shot up from middle into the red zone, warning light came on and I lost engine power. At the local Subie dealer today, he said the engines pretty dead, that I need a replacement engine and that the cause was the radiator cap not closed fully, but I am inclined to investigate further as to why there were no warning lights leading to the breakdown. Any advice would be great. AussieSubie.

idosubaru
warranty? was there a lack or loss of coolant? was the reservoir low, was the radiator low? why would the radiator cap be loose or removed on a 2007?
TheYeti
I know that there have been issues with the caps on some 08 models. I do not know if that includes the later '07 model run. Anyway, it might be worth investigation.
