August 5, 200817 yr Im in need of a good distributor on the Beast, it has an EA81 in it. I remember reading somewhere something about swapping the shaft from a EA81 disty and putting it in the body of an EA82 disty and utilizing the EA82 electronics. I have a practically new EA82 disty ( has like 500 miles) and a buch of bad EA81 units. From what I saw comparing them, looks like all that would have to happen would be swap the shaft and add a spacer and shim it till its right? and that only one of the 2 mounting tabs will be used. Any help is appreciated, thanks
August 5, 200817 yr Author bump for wanting to be able to take this to WCSS without it stranding me far from home
August 5, 200817 yr Check the threads about using EA82 SPFI on the EA81, they're using the EA82 disty.
August 5, 200817 yr If the EA82 disty isn't from a carb'd model it will be a headache: the EFI ones require the EFI ECU.
August 5, 200817 yr My SPFI write up details how to convert an EA82 distributor to work on the EA81. It was designed for SPFI swaps, but the carbed disttributors are similar enough that the procedure should only be different in minor ways: http://home.comcast.net/~trilinear/EA81_SPFI.html GD
August 6, 200817 yr Author Thank you, that was pretty much what i was looking for. One other thing, does anyone know the dimensions of the bushings pressed into the body of the EA81 distributors? Are they available from anyone?

August 6, 200817 yr Thank you, that was pretty much what i was looking for. One other thing, does anyone know the dimensions of the bushings pressed into the body of the EA81 distributors? Are they available from anyone? They are availible, but unless you have machining capabilities you won't have good luck installing them. The old ones have to be reemed out and if it's not done perfectly straight you'll have major issues. GD
August 6, 200817 yr if you need an ea81 disty i have one you can have just cpme get it. let me know thanks rob.
August 6, 200817 yr Author Frank B- Thanks for the part numbers and dimensions GD- my father has a small machine shop, with a milling machine and lathe Robbie- I just figure i can use what I have and save a tank of gas or 190 bucks for a remanufactured unit
