It's getting closer to winter and my legacy will be getting driven again in a few months so I thought I should replace the spark plugs (may have been a couple years, I can't recall), wires and the air filter.

 

Any specific brands I should get? I usually get NGK. Right now it's got those NGK 8mm blue plug wires in it. I got those off a junk yard legacy 2 or 3 years ago. How long do these things last? Should I even bother replacing them? Where do they sell those?

Subaru OEM for the wires and NGK plugs (stock OEM as well). The EJ engines are sensitive to ignition components, i've seen brand new aftermarket wires fail as soon as installed and within a year later. Do a search, there's no shortage of discussion on this stuff.

 

On EJ engines you'll notice aging or compromised wires immediately, either drivability or get a CEL (cylinder misfire).

 

Air filter I have my own preference but there's plenty of good options out there.

Where do you get the OEM wires from? The dealer? Are you talking OEM spec or the actually OEM wires?

 

This is a 90 Subaru Legacy AWD Auto with 293,000 miles on it. Don't know if it's the original engine though. Runs flawlessly.

OEM from Subaru is best. But if yours are working fine then you might consider keeping them too. How many miles on the wires?

 

Other brands will work, but after having a few new wires cause cylinder misfires and bad running (only on EJ engines like yours), i don't have time for that so i go with Subaru. chances are still small, so if you want to try lower quality non-OEM stuff they'll probably work fine.

 

i like %100 if i can get, my time is too valuable to waste on aftermarket ignition wires (on EJ engines) and axles (on any subaru's).

Milage on the wires is unknown. As I said I got them off a legacy at the junkyard and I've put 20K miles on them in the last 3 years.
