How much lift?

Featured Replies

How much lift can i put on my 1989 xt with out too much strain on the stock axels and other components?

36"

Jack that sucker up!! I hear you can fit 44" tires under there if you trim the fenders alittle.

Forget the axles!! They can handle it!!:lol::lol:

yeah im not that dumb. Im just trying to figure out what i can get out of them my buddie has 31'' on his loyale

Are you talking suspension lift or body lift, or either?

You can do as much body lift as you want without changing the angle of the axles. Suspension lift can go about 1.5" over standard EA82. I think XT's and RX's sit about an inch lower then standard? So say 2" of spring lift?

Really depends on how you drive. I used to have about standard height on the front of my Brat and went through S/H axles every couple of months. Couldn't afford new ones. My dad's standard subie never needs axles because the way its driven.

You dont have alot of choice when it comes to lifting a Subaru.

There is no "Frame" so you wont notice the body lift like you do on Trucks. If you want to save your CV's, you have to use a lift kit.

Do yourself a favor, and read through some of the threads in our "Off-Road" forum. There is a TON of information and pictures there to help you understand.

I was looking at sjr lift kits and it dosent look that hard to make them yourself. Whats your thoughts on that?

I think its kinda hard. But thats just me. I would rather spend the $300 or so on a lift that has already been engineered & tested... than spend $300 on materials, and a couple months working all the bugs out.

When lifting the front of your car, you need to offset the front struts to retain the propper wheel camber. If you just add blocks to the top of the struts, your camber will be greatly effected. And there are no adjustments, so you have to offset the blocks just right to avoid uneven tire wear.

The rest, yeah, its pretty much just blocks. There are plenty of people who have made their own lifts and they work great.

yeah doing it yourself will save money it will cost alot less then $300

When my brother and I made a 2" one it cost about $180aud for solid alloy block lift and steel front strut lifts. It was that or $550aud for a BYB one at the time.

BTW, 2" is the highest we can body lift here so thats why only 2".
