crank walk? leads to rear main leak?

Featured Replies

so my clutch cable snapped... and I have had to drive to work in 2nd for a couple of days..

no big it's 1/3 of a mile if that.

but since I haven't been using the pedal, I don't get that leaky oil spot under the car??? no slippage either (maybe the cable was sticking?)

is it possible that my engine leak oil when the clutch pedal is pushed?

and only then? I am going to check for flywheel movement with clutch disengagement tomorrow after I put the new cable in.

opinions? is this just dumb?

Typically with enough crank walk, you'll get a main bearing knock since the thrust bearing integrated into the center main bearing. I've only eve had ONE Subaru that had that and it was my '79 wagon with an EA71 in it. Had a gazillion miles on it too. So no, I don't think that you have a crank walk. Good way to check, grab the front of the crank (without timing belts, accessory belts on there but put the pulley back on) and see how much back and forth movement it has. It should have like none.

it's not moving in and out when I push the clutch (now that I have a cable back)

so I think I was over-reacting.

needs a rear main and a clutch really bad now, though! time to tear in!

I had an EA82T with a millimeter (maybe two) of crank walk with no noises or leakage.
