I have a friend with a '93 Legacy and it won't pass smog. The technician said it spit out the message of "error code 35 control purge solenoid valve...solenoid valve inoperable" but I have not been able to find any info on this and the shop didn't have any ideas.

 

Anyone know?

Hi. The troubleshooting chart is pretty straightforward.

This almost always points to a bad purge control solenoid. Call Jason at 1stsubaruparts.com ((866)528-5282 ) and get a new one. It is also fairly easy to replace. It lives under the intake manifold, on the passenger side.

On the new gens its one bolt one elec. connector and 1 or 2 hoses. Really easy to remove and install. You may want to remove some of the air intake ducting and the IAC hose for access.
