Help Me Replace This Hose...

Featured Replies

I have a couple pinholes in this hose that send a very small yet steady stream of antifreeze out. I can't find any info at all about replacement. The manual called it a heater hose. Does this have to be a fit part, or can I just buy a length of hose and fit it. (If so, anyone know the correct size?) Also, since it's above the thermostat, do I need to drain all the fluid out of my radiator? I think I can change it without having to remove the lower radiator hose.

Thanks for any input.

I generally buy those from Subaru dealers, as I have not yet found an adequate aftermarket replacement. I've used aftermarket ones, but don't like them. You could try asking at a parts store though. I always describe it as the jumper hose from the heater pipe to the water pump, mentioning that it's 5/8" ID, and have not had trouble.

Thanks. The parts store would have to order it, so I'm just gonna pay a few bucks more and order from a Subaru online retailer. It's not so bad I have to change right away. It spits out fluid rather slowly, so I'm fine with waiting for mailorder.

Subaru part number 806715081 I think. Should be able to replace without removing radiator hose, but, you'll make a bigger mess.... I suggest removing radiator hose, draining radiator and engine and replacing said "water pump bypass" hose. The reason why is the entire engine and heater system will drain regardless as they are "above" the thermostat, might as well dump the radiator as well. If you can get a 5 gallon bucket up to it when removing, the thermostat housing/lower radiator hose is they way to go.

Enjoy!
