I am installing the clutch on my 98 OBW 2.5. The manual reads "

When installing the clutch cover on the flywheel, position

the clutch cover so that there is a gap of 120° or more

between “0” marks on the flywheel and clutch cover. (“0”

marks indicate the directions of residual unbalance.)

 

What if you flywheel does not have the "0" mark. Also there was no engine in the car when I got it. The Clutch pedal is in the floor. I can us my hand to Bring it forward but if I step on it it springs to the floor. If this normal?

I've never seen this before but I also haven't read any directions! I have always just put the clutch onto the dowel pins on the flywheel and tightened to specs! I spec thats tight enough:lol: But I've NEVER had one not work or fail and I have replaced many!

I forget - haven't done one is a few weeks. Perhaps look on the OTHER side of the flywheel for a mark?

 

Seems to me it's usually paint dots that you pay attention to. Or with the pins in the flywheel that the pressure plate only fits one way.

 

I just don't remember it being that difficult.

 

Perhaps someone else will chime in.

BTW replace those clips holding the fork to the TO bearing while you're in there - dealer part.

 

Also 5 of the last 6 manuals that I've pulled the engine on I've needed to replace the slave cylinder immediately or within the next week.

 

Perhaps it's the age and mileage of the cars and they get overextended when the engine is out of the car. Just a heads up.

IF YOU LOOK AT THE RING GEAR ON THE FLYWHEEL YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE A PUNCH MARK (I) IT MAY HAVE EITHER WHITE OR YELLOW PAINT ON IT , THAT IS THE 0 MARK THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT . IF YOU DON'T FIND IT ,JUST THROW IT ON

I've never had the same engine when chaging a clutch so this wasn't an issue. Also never had a problem. My OB clutch went to the floor at 1st. After starting and running the engine for awhile the pedal was fine. Make sure you lube the piviot points on the clutch lever.
