Auto Shifter Lock

Featured Replies

My wifes '95 Legacy with auto has had a problem that

seems to be getting worse.

When she pushes in the button to move the shift lever

back she hears a loud solenoid click. And now and then

she can't get the shifter to move back. Seems to be

getting more frequent.

What is causing this?

Yes, she can't get out of park.

I have seen the bypass in other year models. But there

is no bypass button on the shift console on this one.

And she has no owners manual... :-(

Where is the bypass button on a '95 wagon?

I have a 95 wagon owners manual from my old silver bomber......i think. pay shipping and its yours.

if there is a small blank located on the shifter console

just above and left of the shifter

then pry it off and insert

a round dowl of some sort.

If there is no blank.. then

the console will need lifted

Here is a picture of the console lifted

with a phillips head

inserted

Fantastic!! Thanks for the pic!

That appears to be the same location as the older

Subs button.

The solenoids go bad often, especially when it is cold out. If you don't want to deal with replacing it, you can just take a zip tie and tie the mechanism on the shifter back so it will never engage. I don't have pics of how to do it, but if you lift the console and watch it work it will be fairly obvious how to do it.

It does seem to be more prevalent when it's cold out.

I'll take a look at tying it back when I next see the

car.
