December 10, 200817 yr How do you get the two belts tight on the front of the motor, i have a 1.8l fuel injected turbo motor and i took the belts off and not cant figure out how to get them tight enough
December 10, 200817 yr It uses a tensioner device, tighten it unil it pulls the belt up and tight, easy
December 10, 200817 yr I fjyou cannot get them tight, then they are most likely stretched from use and need to be replaced.
December 10, 200817 yr I believe he's talking about the fan belts. And it still has A/C if theres 2 belts. Theres a 6 point stud that sticks out just above the water pump. This will loosen the tenshioner for the A/C belt. The other belt is adjusted by moving the alternator.
December 10, 200817 yr Author i can get it somewhat tight with pushing on it but when i try to tighten the bolts it gets a little looser and doesnt seem like it is tight enough
December 10, 200817 yr Get new belts. See if the auto store has ones that are just a tad smaller than the ones you are using. With several of my cars I have had to go off spec in order to get them tight and not slipping.
December 11, 200817 yr Author one of the belts is connected to the air conditioner thing, and the other one is connected to the alternator, i am not sure how to get either tight enough to be drivable
December 12, 200817 yr Author Thanks to all of you i got the belts tight and can now keep working on finishing up the car and making it able to drive
December 12, 200817 yr One more time..... GET NEW BELTS. You can struggle with the old ones or you can get this over with. Trust me, I have done this many times and the only fix was a new set of belts.
