tap stripped valve cover hole?

Featured Replies

leaky valve covers.

checked the bolts and 1 was freespinning.

i think i can get to it with a tap.

what are the bolt and tap sizes i need for this?

thanks, Bill

oh wow, that sucks. 6 x1.25 or 8x1.25. Pull one of the top ones at the store, they're easy enough to remove and take it in with you.

the easiest way to fix these is to find out if the holes are deeper than the original bolt. if so, then there are usually fresh never used threads down lower and you can use a longer bolt. check that out, you might just use a longer bolt and not need to do all the tapping stuff. i've done that a number of times on timing belt pulley bolts.
