best trans gearing

Featured Replies

ok so i was going to be doing the wrx driveline with my h6 motor but fundages are getting a bit high so i want to sell that stuff and get something different. i was thinking about using the legacy gt trans and rear but i dont like the highway rpms. what would be a good trans and rear to use to get better gearing for driving on the highway?

thanks

well as im sure your aware....the WRX transmissions dont get the best rap when it comes to holding power....(yes granted its all about the driver)but weve seen more than a handful shear the teeth right off of mostly first and second gear....Im assuming you want a manual trans....in that case if is possible i think the STI 6 speed and R180 rear end would be a phenominal combo for the H6...i was watching something the other day about a guy named Jeff Perrin who swapped an H6 into his STI and turboed it.... http://mag.subiesport.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=69

i don't think we know what you're trying to do? what engine, what car, etc?

as for gearing, i've never been a huge fan of Subaru's high reving highway gearing either in manual transmissions. you might be able to get a 3.9 or something from an early impreza and put larger wheels on it - like 16" or so. look at the trans chart and see what the differences actually are.

sorry for the little info i put in there, but you /\ actually answered the question so thanks. oh yeah car=97 legacy gt, motor=ez30d from 02 legacy so im going to try and find an older impreza and grab everything from that.... thanks alot
