Rear suspension setup

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I was wondering iif anyone has any expereince setting up rear suspension. My question is when mounting the rear shocks do I want the trailing arm extended all the way when I measure for the shock length? Sorry for the newbie question but I have never done this before. I want to get the most travle that I can get but I don't want to overwork the cv joints. Thanks.

I have found the rubber joints on the swing arms stop the down travel before you get into trouble with the CV joints in the rear. Because those joints don't take any turning angle they can go a fair way.

The thing you want to make sure of is the bump stop bottoming out before the shocker. This one is important.

I set my buggy up so the suspension and the shocks bottom out at the same point.

I though about limiting straps but they're just not needed.

My goal was to keep the CV angle close to the original angle.

The problem is when you don't know the finish (rear) weight, its hard

to calculate the angle of the CV in advance.

I used Bug Pack (dune buggy) coil over adjustable shocks so I could tune the height and ride.

I've used them with and without the coils and have not noticed much difference.
