Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. Looking for some help with an oil leak on my 95 Impreza. This is my gas saver, it runs perfect, drives perfect, but now leaks oil.

 

Oil is dripping near the rear of the engine. If I start the car I can watch the oil dripping out. Not good. I'm not sure exactly where the leak is occuring. I'm planning to clean engine to locate the leak this weekend.

 

Temperature is fine, not burning any oil. Car has 140,000 miles. 2.2L AWD auto.

 

What would cause such a noticable leak? Rear main, head gasket, oil pump seal?

Yes, you can include valve gaskets, front main, Oil filter loose?, Oil input tube seal....any other place's?

 

Mine lose's/burns oil also...Its hard to see where cuz of the mess...I dunno it keeps on driving and I keep on checking the oil every other day. 248,xxx miles ...if your looking to get rid of it let me know, I need parts:grin:.

First - make absolutely sure where it's coming from. "rear" leaks can often be from somewhere forward, but drain and/or blow back and only "appear" to be from the rear.

 

Easy and likely culprits: Valve cover gaskets and the rear cam cap o-ring. These are very easy to replace and inexpensive.

 

Fortunately the easy ones are also the most likely. Both of those usually tend to leak over time and you're vehicle is 15 years old.

 

Expensive/big job culprits are headgaskets and rear main seal.

 

For leaks at the front of the engine you would look at Cam seals and oil pump seals/gasket.
