Non Feedback ea81 carb on ea82?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am hoping for some help with carb question. I have seen much good info on these boards. I recently picked up an '86 wagon with an ea82. Previous owners have monkeyed with the induction system. I discovered that the ECM was removed, the choke wired open on the feedback Hitachi, and most of the the sensor wires to the carb cut or missing. The hitachi runs like hell, has leaky throttle shafts and is basically toast. Obviously, I am not going to try to find the parts to reinstall a hitachi feedback carb. Eventually, possibly, I would entertain the thought of a SPFI swap, but for now, I would just enjoy driving the car. Weber conversion kits are economically in the stratosphere for me at the moment, so I was considering an older non-feedback carb from an ea-81. Is this a pipe dream, or should I pursue? I have been trying to find a rebuildable 32/36 weber, but was wondering if the older carter or hitachi non feedbacks were also an option. Thank you so much.

The bolt pattern for the carb mount to the manifold is smaller on the EA81 carbs, it wont fit on a EA82 without some sort of home made adapter plate.

you can find ea82 carbs WITHOUT feedback, keep looking!!!

or swap in ea81 intake manifold and your choice of carb, weber, hitachi, or carter/weber

the carter/weber intake also has it's own pattern

That's good news about non-feedback ea-82 carbs. I will continue on. Thanks for the reply on the ea-81 carbs, I thought there might be a difference in the mounting pattern, but now I know.

Thank you for your replies
