GPS cubby mount for 05-09 legacy/outback

Featured Replies

Just wanted show everyone the mount I made for my Garmin Nuvi 650. I wanted something temporary that could be easily removed. I fabricated a plate to match the rubber in the bottom of the cubby. Since there are little slots on the sides and back, I utilized those to hold it in place. It sits flush on top of the rubber. I laser cut it to size using clear acrylic so the suction mount would hold.

What do you guys think?

I like it! I'd like to do something to make mine blend in a little better. But with the option of being able to remove it. Nice job!

Ryobi1,

With the unit tucked back in flush up against the cubby opening lid, how does it affect your satellite reception? Did you fold the antenna over top of the lid and the dash?

My nuvi has the flip up antenna. I leave it flipped up towards the back of the cubby with no issues. Quite a few guys on the other forums have used a lot of other models, and I have yet to hear of a reception issue.

On the newer Nuvi models, the antenna is internal. I have been thinking of upgrading, but have not gotten around to it.

Ryobi1,

I assume that you are saying that your flip up antenna is receiving the satellite signals just fine through combined thickness of the cubby lid and the top of the dash.

Thanks for the post and your response. Nice set up!
