where to find higher diff ratio for racing?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know any company selling ring and pinions for Suby rear diffs?

I would really like the R152 since it is 8 lbs lighter than the R160's but stock ones are rare, so I am guessing no one offers a racing version. Unless it was in some other brand of car that people raced?

I have the 4.4 R160 from the 1998 RS automatic. I would really like a 5.1 or higher. Any options out there?

Thanks

Cliff

no, there are no options from subaru,

unless you went to an r180 from a later model STI that had 5. somethin gears.....

NISMO is your knight in shining armor there.they have a couple of sites that may help you out.cheers, brian

You realize that if you change the rear diff ratio you'll also have to change the front diff ratio to match. Unless you go to RWD only.

Race tire selection is limited even if we go with smaller rims.

Um, yes and no. Our front diff is a rear diff upside down. So we will have to change the front diff ratio but it will be a rear diff. How is that for nice and clear<G>.

5.1 is actually lowering the gearing higher would be say 3.7,Nismo did supply from3.5 up to 5.7 in some diff's and Subaru use Nissan diffs so there is your answer, the range is greater for the R180 rather than for the R160 but there are still a few options.
