February 2, 200917 yr So, the headlights on my 86 GL Wagon have serious issues. When I've got the headlights turned on, the high beam indicators in the dash stay lit and as far as I can tell, both the high beams and the low beams seem to be lit at the same time. When I put slight rearward pressure on the switch, or turn on my turn signal, the hi-beam indicators turn off and I'm left with regular low beams. If I push it forward past the click, I'm left with just the hi-beams usual pattern. (This is all compared to my brothers 85 of course.) So far I haven't had any problems with people flashing their lights at me for blinding them, and I actually appreciate the combined patterns of light since I have a night blindness issue and the standard low beams are pretty pathetic. But my question is, how can I fix this so that if/when I decide to wire a set of driving/offroad lights into the high beam circuit, I wont have everything on at once when I'm just doing normal driving? I haven't got any idea where to start... Thanks for the help and let me know if I need to clarify anything.
February 3, 200917 yr The dimmer switch in the column, the one that you flip back and forth fo hi to low beam.
February 4, 200917 yr It's the whole cluster, switch assembly for Turn signals and headlights. You have to pull the steering wheel off then the whole unit slides up over the column.
