Greetings to all you fellow Subaru owners.

I have a 1998 Forester, I have had it for a little over a year now. It's been great. The only complaints that I would have are fairly minor ones. Below is a picture the day I brought it home.

There are just a few things about it that I would like to get around to dealing with sometime though, the most major one being the silver painted molding around the bottom of the vehicle (see picture). It has begun to chip and flake in a few places is pretty crispy, I know that it is only a matter of time before it becomes an eye sore...well even more than now. My question on that is if anyone would have any idea how much it would cost to repaint it all the way around rather than just “touch up”? There is also a golf ball sized dent in above the passer-side rear door I'd like to see gone...tree branch...need I say more :P. Thankfully the paint wasn't chipped. Does anyone know the fair going rate for body work these days? I don't want to get taken for way more then it's worth. Sadly it's becoming harder to find people you can trust.

Has anyone else had trouble with any of the following things?

The back lighting for the climate controls no longer work for my car...one thing I didn't find out until after I bought it :D.

I have heated seats, but the seat panel in the driver's seat doesn't heat just the panel for the back. Okay for the cold mornings but not quite as nice ha ha.

My interior clock also didn't work when I got it. Not a huge deal cause the radio/cass player has one so I don't NEED it.

Are any of these things that could be easily fixed or should I just put up with them. They are fairly minor when you consider how great the car runs etc. but I really like this car and plan to have it for quite some time so I'd like to keep it up as best I can.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome

Do a search here, it will explain all :)

The Heated seat unfortunitly is a broken heater in the seat. All those getting our butts in and out of the seat flexes the heater over and over and then the wire fails.

The clocks are usually a broken solder joint on the circuit board. If you take it apart, it will obvious where to re-solder it.

Or it can be a malfunctioining portal in the fabric of the space-time continum. Repairing it may doom the entire universe to death.

Proceed with caution.
