Can you cali EJ swappers advise on the absolute best engine to get to make passing state ref inspection a breeze?

 

From what I have read I think a pre 95 OBD 1 EJ without the EGR would be best. is this true?

I used a 93 legacy engine in my brat. My brat is often in Berkeley if you want to check it out send me a pm. Its alot of work, so I wouldn't call it a breeze, but I did pass the smog ref. I would recommend you get an entire car as a donor and keep everything from the engine bay and the exhaust system. Good luck.

I hear as long as its later than an 92 then the piston liners or something is reconfigured better and is longer lasting.
