Can you cali EJ swappers advise on the absolute best engine to get to make passing state ref inspection a breeze? From what I have read I think a pre 95 OBD 1 EJ without the EGR would be best. is this true? Thanks in advance.
-
Coincidental. I just came in here looking to see if anyone has actually got an EJ swap past the state refs, and your thread was sitting right there on the front page. Congratulations! First try too! Hmmm, now I just need to find a place to wrench in the east bay.

Whatever became of the Star?

i second no photoshop, the photo has too many imperfections that could only come from real life. window transparency is a dead giveaway, its almost impossible to fake reflections and background through two windows -

looking at that timeline, I wanna know more about this car: I know it shouldent be in the pre-80s forum, but enquiring minds want to know. -
i vote for painted grille, go for it! I am partial to the honeycomb myself, in fact i swapped out the stock one on my 83 for one. But thats a personal preference. My roommate is all about the debadged 83 grilles.

you should... of course you will probably never use it, only the small 200mm clutches that you can't get through the starter hole. maybe you could wear it on a chain, blinging. for everyone saying "wtf is he talking about?" GD had the idea of taking an old pilot shaft off a blown tranny, boom, instant "heavy duty' metal clutch alingment tool.

looking good scrap, you got a nice beast factor there... might want to resize those pics though. let me know next time you guys go out. -
My engine is hanging on the cherry picker and can't go back in until I find one. I need the one for the EA81 clutch. I have tried everywhere and the only place who has one in stock is NAPA, and you gotta buy the whole clutch kit:mad: I don't believe you can just install the pressure plate hand tight and tighten the bolts through the starter hole due to the smaller clutch size. before I separated teh engine I tried and coulden't fit a socket in there, I might be wrong though. So if anyone local has one I would be much obliged if I could borrow it for ten minutes. thanks

nice, I love that blackout look. if you can't find those black door handles and gas door you can paint them with a mil-spec flat black (spraypaint), which is manufactured by AERVOE. I painted mine on the wagon a year ago and they haven't shown a single chip since. That stuff is chalk full of dust so it sticks to anything. Go over with a clearcoat after you want glossy. FYI -

which lights are you referring to? the big ones on top of the a-bar are aftermarket, some generic random off-road model. actually all the lights are aftermarket except the headlights and turn signals. big M/T's are definitly needed to go through some of those traps. -

thanks guys, that is all in clackamas, oregon. out redland road if your local. but its pretty hard to find unless you know where it is. those trails are all ATV, hence the little ruts, but as we all know subarus fit on em just fine. For the locals: I believe the next run we do will be this friday the 9th or saturday the 10th. pm me if you wanna go. -
so here you go. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-201595747261888282 the cheesy transitions/titles/and such are there for your humoring purposes. BUT no comments about the music, if you don't like it, turn it down. this is an off-road forum not a music forum. hopefully to be more throughout the summer.

the best price I could find was 100.00 for the kit (comes with a gallon, two rollers, etc.) that was at shucks/checkers believe it or not. the autozones around here only carry duplicolor bedliner which I have heard sucks (peels off in two months) they also just sell herculiner quarts seperatly which I would recommend as its only about 30 bucks a can. also works on boots! and no lift for this one, too nice to offroad. thats what the wagons for. oh yeah and plaid seats, cept i have seat covers now because the drivers side leaves a lot to be desired.

I did one thin coat for a primer, and then used the rest of the gallon on the second coat. if I had to estimate maybe a eighth of inch thick. The gallon is supposed to cover a full size truck bed, so I am guessing its probably thicker than normal. that stuff is great. sticks to everything (including hands) thanks for the compliments guys.
-
So although the bed was almost rust free (one small patch near the tailgate) I decided to herculine it to protect it from further rust-producing scratches and general wear and tear. I treated the rust patch with rust netralizer and then start slopping the herculiner on. It came out excellent. I also slapped some jump seats in (bolted in only for easy removal) the brat is also now sporting an (almost) new weber as well. and purrs like a kitten.

+1 once I drove by this guy on an ATV trail and he just looked at me and said "I've been riding this trail for 10 years and I have never seen a rig up here" i just grinned and nodded knowinly.

glad you finally finished it... only took what, a year, year and a half? now you gotta bring it back up here to play in the mud, none of that pu$$y sand stuff. did you paint the roll cage yet? still going with white? I want high res good pics !!!!!!1 but all in all it looks beautiful, just how I imagined it.
