Can I install this thing off the engine since i took the support off to change the o-ring anyway.

See a similat thread about doing hte crank seal while the oil pump is off within the last few weeks.

 

It's personal preference - but I install AFTER that little piece over the canshaft is back on the engine.

I have done it both ways; doesn't seem to make much difference either way. If you do it before, maybe grease the cam a little bit to help the seal slide over it without getting nicked.

If you removed the dipstick tube, replace the two O-rings there as well.
