Rear end singing

Featured Replies

Last night my son and a friend got in the back seat of my 98 Brighton. When I accelerated, they said "cool turbo whine".. Yeah right.

I think they were hearing some kind of gear whine from the rear- maybe differential. I have never heard it before, but I never ride in the back.

Checked the diff fluid- all okay.

Is this normal? Anything to worry about?

Are you sure its not a wheel bearing sound or maybe a tire?

Don't think it is tires. They have less than a 1000 miles on them. Could be a bearing I guess,

It only makes the noise when I accelerate.

How many miles are on the vehicle? manual or auto trans? are you sure its coming from the rear of the vehicle? does it get louder when you increase speed? than faint away when you slow down? so what happens when your cruising along at 50 mph with your foot on the gas and than just all of a sudden take your foot completely off the gas? does the noise go away?

155K on the clock. Auto tranny, Not louder but higher pitch. Cruising no sound. No change from cruising to deceleration.
