hi - lo linkage adjustment?

Featured Replies

so the ea fsm says to install a holder for the hi-lo rod, essentially snug up the rod to the ball joint and back it off 90 degrees from there? does that sound right? I take it I'm immobilizing the shift pall to isolate the rod itself

I have my clutch freeplay on spec, but am stuck in 4wd, hi or lo, no 2wd. it worked fine in the donor car...

this is really starting to P/$$ me off. I can have 4lo, 4hi, or both, but not 2wd - wtf is going on? I read the similar thread about no gearshift and reversed a bolt in my 4wd lever to keep it from possibly binding...

the whole point of tearing my car apart was to put in this transmission, not the other 15 repairs I did "while I was at it", including replacing the engine

help

Are you sure the shifter is going down enough when you push down on it? I was having a similar problem in my car and I had bend my shifter up a little so it would clear the interior trim

Ditto, but I cut out a bit of the interior trim instead. I also one time had to drive forward a few feet then put it in reverse for a few feet, then it finally went back into FWD.

Thanks guys. I had to cut some carpet away to fit it, but nothing seemed binding or wrong...

The solution was to get so po'ed at the whole deal that I was in the process of disconnecting the rod altogether to put the trans in 2wd manually and safety wire it in place - when I heard it 'snick -clink' into gear.

apparently I hit the sweet spot for the rod length while I was unscrewing the adjuster quite angrily

so much for science and careful procedure

maybe I should have just bashed it with a rock to begin with
