metal sounding clank when i hit big bumps

Featured Replies

hello,

i just purchased an 01 outback ej25 with 214k miles. i purchased it for $2200 from a dealer who got it on trade in. with the high miles i figured it was a good buy. i am noticing a metal sounding clank coming from underneath me when i hit large bumps.

any ideas?

where should i start. justlloking under the car everything looks secure

thanks jake

creating multiple threads is really confusing, i guess the posting didn't show up for you or somethign? folks post in one and not the other and things get confusing, then one gets deleted and you're left with half the information. your threads can be edited if it was information you were trying to correct.

one thread says forester, the other thread says outback?

based on this description i'm betting it's a front strut.

Probably something benign if you don't have any other issues. My first thoughts are heat shields (very common noise makers) or front struts, at that mileage they could easily need replaced.

Of course typical ball joints and tie rods should be checked as well, looking in particular for broken boots/leaking grease.
