Hello, I have a 01 outback, automatic and 230k miles. about 2 months ago i had my front brake pads done and disc turned. Now 2 months later my abs light comes on after driving for about 5 min. When I turn the car off and then turn back on it takes 5 min for abs light to turn back on. Where should I start. I am not sure if it is related but also when my car is off and I hit the brakes the dash lights come on. ???????? thanks you guys are the best Jake

Ok, So I just went to a different auto parts sotre and had my alternator checked. This time it was reading 15.6v. They said the altenator is fine. Could this be some connection issue or a bad ground? thanks Jake

So I took the battery in to get tested. They said it was bad. So they gave me a new one under warranty. I put it in and the battery, brake and ABS lights came on right away. They seem to come on and off now. I checked all my connections and they are tight. ALternator?

Im sorry I meant volts. The guy at autozone said 12.6 was alright but I thought it was low. Why would there be no battery in the morning though. It seems like the alternator is doing enough to keep the car running? why would the battery discharge? just a thought before I go spend a $160. thanks again Jake

Hi, I have 01 outback. It has 220k miles. Recently while driving my battery, abs, and brake light came on. Within a minute they went off but the ABS light would turn on when I pushed the gas pedal and off when not pushed. Now I have had those 3 lights turn on, on another subaru and 20 minutes later the car died and the alternator had died. So I took the car to autozone and they tested the altenator. They said it was good. I noticed it showed 12.6 amps. I dorve the car for 2 days with the ABS light coming on and off. Then yester morning the car had no power. I didn't leave anything on. I jumped the car when I got back from work. I drove it for about an hour and no problems. When I returend home I turned it off and started it an hour later with no problems. This morning dead. Also the battery is new within 4 months. any ideas? thanks Jake

hello, I have an 01 outback. 215k miles ej25 engine. I just purchased it and the ac blows warm air. Is it worth my time and $15 dollars to recharge the ac. I am asumming it is still not gonna work or just leak right out? what do you think? thanks again Jake

sorry I forgot that made a 3.0. but mine is the ej25. Its definetely not the heat shields. I know that sound pretty well. Its a more solid sounding clank than that.

hello, I have an 01 outback with 214k on it. I have been noticing a metal sounding clank when i hit bigger bumps. Sounds like it is coming from under the the middle of the car. i have looked under the car but haven't noticed any missing bolts or anything that looks unsecure. I know this is kinda vague but any ideas? could it be anything to do with the transmission:slobber:? thanks jake

hello, i just purchased an 01 outback ej25 with 214k miles. i purchased it for $2200 from a dealer who got it on trade in. with the high miles i figured it was a good buy. i am noticing a metal sounding clank coming from underneath me when i hit large bumps. any ideas? where should i start. justlloking under the car everything looks secure thanks jake

Hi I have 2001 forester with 184k miles. I am getting a real strong gas smell at startup usually only on cold mornings. Goes away after driving for 30 minutes or so. doesn't come back the rest of the day upon startup any ideas??

Hi I have an 01 forester. I am putting my amps in it and need to bring power into it. Don't see any holes under the dash I can bring a wire in. I do see these holesunder the steering wheel area that have like a plastic cylinder looking plug. not sure if those are actually removeable. any ideas??? jake

Hi, I am putting my amps in my new 01 forester. I need to bring the power wire from the engine into the car. I got up under the steering wheel under the dash to look for any holes i could go through. I didsn't see any. I did see thes hole-plug looking things. Kinda looked like i could pull them out and bring wires through. (possibly that is what they are for????) any ideas?

Are you serious??? Chains on a subaru. A- I lived in tahoe for 8 years never once did i need chains and i was a broke ski bum with bald tires. B-if you do use chains you'd better put them on all for tires.

don't know when it was changed. I just bought the car. seems to shift fine. and I am probably listening for every little sound since it is new but i will change the fluid asap.

I don't know when it was changed last. i just purchased it. It shifts fine and I am probably the only that can hear the click but I am paranoid about my cars and hear every little sound. I am going to have the fluid change wednesday.

Hi, I have an 01 forester, automatic transmission with 174000 miles. You can barfely hear it but when the car shifts from the 2nd to 3rd you can hear a little click sound. Any ideas? is this bad? I never had an automatic transmission. any help or advice is great thanks jake

Its the 2.5 sohc engine. Not a knocking, ticking, grinding sound. Sounds like the the starter is still turning???????? It only happens for a second or 2.

Hi, I just purchased a 01 Forester. It has 175000 miles and an automatic transmission. Everything on the car is great excpet I am getting a noise immediatley after the cars turns over. It starts just fine. I can't really describe the noise but it almost sounds like starter keeps trying to start for a couple of seconds right after the car starts up? I have no idea. Don't know if it a is a bad thing or not. Any Suggestions or advice? thanks Jake

I am sorry, Yes it is the dash light. It is at a dealer, they took it on a trade and didn't know if it was always on or if it turns off. Possibly anything really expensive???

Hi, I am looking at buying an 01 forester. It has 174k miles. Everything on it checks out great except it has a brake light on. I can pick up the emergency brake and return it down but nothing changes. any ideas why the brake light would stay on??? should I worry about it and not buy it??? thanks

thanks Gary. I will keep that in mind. I know all to well about tb pulley going. It happenend on my 97 outback. THey are asking 3700 which I am guessing they won't go any lower on. maybe they will but that is a pretty good price. thanks Jake

Hi, I am looking to buy a 2001 forester from a dealer that got it on a trade in? it has 174k miles. It is a really really great price. It is an automatic aswell. I have never owned an automatic. Anythings imparticular that i should check out when testing it. I am pretty sure the head gasket problems were limited to 97-99 2.5's. thanks jake
