August 12, 200916 yr Ok, I'm trying to get the piston out I got the clip off and now I need to get the pin out so I can pull the piston out... any Ideas?
August 13, 200916 yr Slide hammer and a hook. Or just a hooked bit of flat-bar with a hook on the other end to hammer on. There are more exotic tools out there but a slide hammer is how it's done at the dealerships (not that they rebuild engines, but that's the OEM tool for the job). GD
August 13, 200916 yr Author Oh YAH! just what I want to be doing with a 230k engine Hammering on it..
August 13, 200916 yr They are not an interferance fit - if you have to actually HAMMER on them something is wrong. It's just a bit of impact to dislodge them from any varnish that might be holding them in place. On well maintained engines and at reassembly they can be pulled out and inserted by hand. It's a finesse thing and you have to have a bit of feel for it. Slight force isn't going to hurt anything - it's jut the piston slapping the bore a bit. GD
August 13, 200916 yr You working on a 22T? The sprayers aren't needed and consensus is they are just a failure waiting to happen (they very often fall out) - cap them. GD
August 13, 200916 yr Author AGGHH!! thats a lot more work than I want!! I just want this thing done already!
August 13, 200916 yr Turbo engines are picky. You can't rush things or you'll be looking for a new block. GD
August 14, 200916 yr If you take out the covers on the front and the back, you can line the piston up and see the wrist pin from the opposite access hole. You can actually take a long punch and drive the pin out from the opposite side. They can be a bit tight and tapping out with a hammer isn't going to hurt anything. I did a 2.2 this way and it ran like a champ after we got it all back together. God luck.
August 14, 200916 yr I use a real long, about 18", screwdriver and tap the pins out from the other side.
