EA82 woes

Featured Replies

1987 gl hatch. so heres the problem. my timing belt snapped, got it replaced, then all hell broke loose. now i have a slight knock on the passenger side of the engine. is there a simpler way to fix other then a rebuild, or would it be easier to swap the engine for an ejxx?:-\

no, it didnt come with the ea81, they had both carb, and fuel injected models that year.

He has an '87 three door coupe if it's got the EA82.

This "knock" - what does it sound like? Could it be a lifter tick? Could the belt be off a tooth?

Just having a belt snap will not damage an EA82. This knock is either unrelated, pre-existing, or due to incorrect assembly/adjustment.

sorry I thought those were trunk cars:rolleyes: like ea81's.

backlash in the driverside belt. adjust the tensioner. your tach is juming around, isn't it?

lot more then a lifter "tick". i am able to hear it over the idle. i hear it in the throttle body, and on the passenger side head underneath

Yep - sounds like a lifter. If it's just a single lifter try a quart of ATF with the oil.
