88 Subaru EA82 4x4 wagon. Engine knocks real bad when cold and then gradually disappears as it warms up.

157,00o miles. Good oil pressure, no smoke. Piston Slap or Rod Knock? Sometimes, I can just barely hear it when it is warm. Never did it before. yep, confused, ignore it or put in a new motor? looking for advice/and/or opinions. thanks.
