Installing Idler Pulley Bolts

Noob question... Doing my first timing belt on EJ22 Turbo. When reinstalling the idlers, should I use Threadlocker (red or blue), anti-seize, or nothing on the bolt threads?

 

I noticed elsewhere that the torque spec for the crank pulley bolt has been increased to 125 ft-lbs. Any change for the torque for the idler bolts?

Ive seen people used red thread locker on these bolts, however I could be wrong here but I don't believe you HAVE to use it...

 

DO NOT use red threadlocker. Red is the *permanant* locker. It should on;y be used on bolts that aren't going to be loosened again.

 

It will greatly increase the chances that the threads will rip out the next time that the belt needs changed.

 

IF you want to use some threadlocker, use the blue stuff.

 

I do t-belts all the time and don't use threadlocker.

 

Set the crank pulley to at least 150+ ft/lbs. it needs to be on tight or it will wobble it's way off the keyway and strip out.

Thanks guys. I'll use the manual's 32 ft-lbs on the idler bolts, blue Loctite, and see if I can get 150 on the crank pulley. This little 91 Legacy Sport Sedan has 240K miles, and I'd like to see if I can stretch it to 300K.

Thanks for the tip..I've seen guys do it, but if I recall all the articles Ive read and the countless Subie t-belt idlers Ive done Ive never used it...;)
