year?

model?

engine?

trans?

There's usually a metal tag that has some numbers on it. That would have the size of the ring gear and the ratio on it.

Sorry folks , It's a 1996 Impreza L AWD wagon 2.2 auto . There was no tags on the rear end , just that sticker.

it should be a 4.11.

Johnceggleston , 4.11 , that seems to be a really high gear ratio, because it seems to rev about 2575 rpm or real handy to that , at 60 mph in auto overdrive.

So they must have some wicked automatic high overdrive gear. There is so much to learn about these cars...

thanks for the help...:)

You know , Fairtax4me , is was funny , that there was not a tag , just that sticker on the diff ..........

There might not be a tag on these cars. I'm used to American cars, and they almost always have a tag under one of the cover bolts on the differential that has the ratio and a few other numbers stamped on it.

I can't find any info about transmission gear ratios, but from what i've seen most 4 cylinder cars have a .85 - .80:1 overdrive gear.

Post the # on the bellhousing of the transmission. That will be easier to look up by code than the rear diff.

2750 at 60 MPH sounds more like a 3.9 ratio to me.

i don't know imprezas that well, but i don't think a 96 auto had a 3.9, but i could be wrong. the legacy 96 auto had a 4.11, manual had a 3.9. and i just don't think the impreza was very different, but who knows.

The car is having a sleepover at the transmission shop , Torque convertor bearing started howling bad , so they are replacing the convertor with a new one.. I will get them to get the # on the bell housing , and they may know what the rear end ratios are too. Will post further info...:)

Thanks , folks
