I have a '00 Outback Ltd wagon and would like to have an outside air temp gauge.
Any way to install later model ones cleanly or is it better to go the JC Whitney route?

I think you will have to use some sort non-factory unit if your model did not have that option. Not sure what the JCW model is but you should be able to find something on the market that you can remotely mount the sensor near the lower front end and a small display on the dash.

I have one in 3 of my rigs. They are aftermarket units you can get at a parts store. Mine is called Ice Alert.
