Mendodave Posted February 26, 2004 Share Posted February 26, 2004 OK, so I have a lifted '84 wagon, and want to put my spare 1981 trans in it for the lower 3rd/4th gears. the trans is in my shop. I have a new throwout bearing and the high dollar tranny mounts. what should i do to the tranny before mounting? Flush it with kerosene, or ? what about seals? are there any seals i should replace while it is out? I have the flywheel/clutch assembly from the same car, and the clutch looks new, the printing on the clutch plate is still there. the rear part of the trans looks dirty, so it could be that seal is leaking. GeneralDisorder Posted February 26, 2004 Share Posted February 26, 2004 The gear oil will come out of the rear of the trans without the driveline on, and the "cup" that's back there just slides on. so it might just *appear* to have leaked from the removal, but not actually leak when installed.
