  1. Yeah, and that IS cleaned up a bit. there were more before! d
  2. right rear, looking at the engine, correct. Left and right concerning the engine is when looking at it. that little T is either blue or red or some color, i can't remember d
  3. just like working in my yard, i know what you mean. just relax, that carb was rock solid since I put it on there. you will see the problem in the morning. Hard to find stuff when its dark, i know. black hoses are hard to see. there is a little T-fitting near the right rear, small red i think plastic thing. That might be it. david
  4. you've got a leak back there if you sprayed cleaner and the idle went up. put a little screw in each of the small hoses you unplugged from the aircleaner, those can cause a stumble if you're running without the aircleaner. It sounds like either a cracked hose or an unplugged one. do you have enough light to do this right? dave
  5. Don't fret over it, the idle air screw is pretty tough to find. It sounds like you got the right one, left side, about an inch or two out from the carb d
  6. did you spray carb cleaner around the the carb, while running? little spurts, each quadrant. right front, squirt, listen, left front, squirt, listen, etc. be patient. you will track it down. Did you perhaps turn the air adjust screw and not the idle screw? The idle screw is on the left side, the air adjust is low, in the center. I had that air adjust screw almost fall out, halfway between Mendo and Phoenix. would have been a bad spot...some luser adjusted it wrong, you can't get good help these days....
  7. Hey D! that vacuum diagram won't help much, it is all different in there. I am sure it is a vacuum leak, though. That carb was pretty reliable for me. It might help to gently lift the aircleaner up, you need to loosen the right front 10mm nut, and remove the left rear one. The only butterfly nut you need to take off on the top is the middle one. Look at the extra aircleaner first, you can see the various vacuum pipes on that. It might be the one to the right, rear, under the aircleaner. You said you wanted to learn mechancial stuff, you are well on the way! just ask the board, we'll get you through this. Mendo
  8. Dalton, the Reno Kid, I call him, has just picked it up. You boyos (and girlos) up in that area take care of him, I gave him the 'Keep your Subaru Alive' book, but he needs guidance. have fun with that thing, Dalton! I sure did! See you at the rallies! Mendo
  9. Hi Thanks, in advance... this is a 2003 Forester, I think this is the VIN JF1-SG6367 3G707511 mendodave@mcn.org very thoughtful of you!
  10. hey y'all doesn't look like I can make it...:-\ three weeks in a row of working, if i do this run up to HR, it will be 24 hours of driving and one day of mud bogging with everyone...then back to another three weeks in a row of work...this is solid work, weekends too. I know, whine whine... I think I want to stay home and relax this weekend...but, we will see what Friday brings. Hey Junkie, could you bring my mug back if I don't show? I get over to Sac fairly often...hoist a few for me, too. Thanks! Mendodave
  11. Hey y'all I can't really pre-register, but I will try my damnedest to get there. Gotta pick up my mug, ya know! the old PKmobile is blowing a bit of smoke after a down hill engine compression session, I think the new muffler burnt a valve. It happened after that...I had the guy put a constricter on it, and it is much better. Of course, it could be the 199k miles, which, with the big wheels, is really more. I have a spare engine, with two busted studs, one intake manifold, one exhaust. You know, the normal ones. I want to crack 200k before putting it in, so I will probably drive the old engine up there. what the heck. gotta get those studs welded with bolts and see if they come out that way. otherwise, I will see you all late Friday night David ('84 Subi wagon, lifted, 15 pug wheels, lsd, etc)
  12. my number for you is a (775)230 number says it is a home number. izzat right? it'd be great to have a place to crash, but will you be over in that same corner? it would be vewy vewy late. i might just sleep on the side of the road somewheres. dave
  13. reeeeeeelly? mine has been tweaked a bit too. that '81 tranny helped a lot, and a big exhaust all the way back from the y pipe. growl! lot more snap to the throttle. i need a weber next, but i am trying not to throw any more money at it. you'll be going up earlier than friday afternoon? usually when I bomb up like that I head up Hwy 101 to Crescent City, then Hwy 199 to Grants Pass, and I-5 drone the rest of the way. It's 12 hours that way. Leave at 3pm, get there at 3am, i could stay at the sisters friday night, but i bet there will be people up at the rally. dave
  14. hey gang well sheeeeit. i have to save all my vacation time for one big splurge. dad is paying airfare to spain for any of us kids that want to bicycle with him on the camino de santiago, a 800km pilgrimage. i can't let the old fart go by himself! so, nvzeno and junkie, i will be there, but probably blast up after work on Friday, and back on Sunday afternoon. flog the old 'roo, which is running pretty fantastic right now. i have some wagon wheels (two sets), a hood, two front fenders, and other bits if someone wants them. i will stay at the show, instead of my sisters, make sure you all don't have too much fun. now that the steering rack is replaced and the lsd installed, the mud pit will see the pkmobile! dave
  15. Hi Tony, Remember me? Mendodave....I ordered a roof rack from you, like you made for Brian. My rack was welded with a bad welding rod, so all the welds are breaking. If you could, I'd like to either ship it back, and have the welds redone, or maybe have you make another and have it powder coated, then I could drive up there and return these bits, and pay for the difference. I seem to remember you saying you had a way to get the roof racks painted. Thanks! welcome back! Dave
  16. Yea! Tony is back! hey Tony, I need to come see ya some weekend and get my roofrack setup properly.. Good to hear from you, we was worried Mendo
  17. I wired mine so it comes on whenever you want. when I see oncoming motorcyclists, I use it to flash them a biker hello. It really works well with low beams, especially in heavy fog. just love it. I stick a plastic pumpkin behind the brushguard and blow the kids minds on Halloween, too. Dave
  18. I fixed that exact same problem with my Nissan pickup. Take a hammer, and tap the key. not a light tap, but not a smack, either. fixed it right up. then when the key is out, lubricate the switch. David
  19. I was in the Windsor PnP today, looking for a powersteering belt idler pulley. No joy on that, but there is a sweet and extremely clean '88 EA81 engine/4 speed dual range tranny in a crumpled hatch. (right front crumpled) The engine has only 69,000 on it. Never seen such a clean engine, tranny looked good too. Somebody pulled the clutch cable, and the oil fill tube was taken off, it is still there, and ditto the EGR valve. Otherwise it is complete. Someone needs a new engine or trans, there it is. If anyone happens to have a powersteering belt idler pulley, mine has a destroyed bearing in it. I repacked it with grease for now, and got the bearing number, so I will try to just get the bearing....but if you've got one sitting around that spins freely and quietly, let me take it off your hands! Dave
  20. Will the two row rads for the newer turbo models work in my EA81 ? I need a two row for the 1984 GL wagon I've got. I ordered the one from radiatorworld, for $51, I will take a chance. When I get it I will photo it and the install. the price for the manual trans is $110, the auto is $51. the dimensions on the auto are an inch wider? hmmmmm. I have the manual trans, but I ordered the auto rad. we'll see how it fits! Thanks! Dave
  21. will an '89 GL10 2 core radiator fit in the EA81 series? 1984 GL wagon, specifically? thanks!
  22. no! not fairies! if it will make ya bastids feel better, there is a good chance i am going to fly to michigan and ride a new used r1200 gs to california this week call me a fuscking fairy then! got the lsd guts, john. i will try to get that stuffed in there asap, but there is a really good price on that gs in mi. might have to go for it. it is a bmw 1200 enduro motorcycle, for the uninformed boxers RULE! dave
  23. doesn't look good for me, boyos...my real estate deal still hasn't signed. I need to be within pen distance for that. The agent is supposed to get me a date as soon as she knows. Take PHOTOS! david
  24. Hey Sweet82, do you think the river will have fallen enough by then to make that deep ford? I love water crossings but I've lost one subie to the ocean already, not ready to loose another to a river. Mendo
  25. I am going to try to be there, it is a thousand miles each way. I've got the original PKmobile, '84 GL wagon, 3/2 lift, 14" pug steels, LSD. LSD is iffy, not sure its working, I might have the replacement in there by then. I'd be leaving Mendocino Wednesday, should get me there by Friday. I'll know this week. Straight from Mendo to Hwy 191 on Hwy 50 if anyone wants to meet up. David
