Mech. Oil press. Guage install

Recommended Posts

Looking to install a Mechanical oil pressure guage on my EA-82. So far the with the adapters supplied with the guage the only threads that fit is marked "A" in the pics below. It's the oil pressure relief valve, I think. I can install the fittings for the guage using the spring and it seats to about the same spot. IS there any problem with setting it up like this?

IF so then I'm looking for the size and thread count of the hole marked "B" below. Hopefully Tacoma Screw will have something.

Thanks

I just bought a SOA oil pump with the sesor for a guage rather than the sensor for the "idiot light"

Is this an aftermarket unit?

The sensor screws into the whole lower and to the right of the hole you marked B. I think that is the only place for it. I believe you need the pressure relief so unless the sensor has that built into it, I would avoid using that hole for the pressure sensor

I believe you can buy just the SOA sensor that should work with an aftermarket guage

hope this helps

Over the years I have put 3 different SOA sending units in. I would like to put in a more reliable mechanical guage as well as the stock electric one. I think the right answer is to find a fitting for the idiot light hole ("B"). I was wondering if setting it up in port "A" is doable since I wouldn't have to buy anything. Just not sure how the valve functions or it's purpose really.

I just installed a Autometer oil pressure gauge in my ea-82. I got my adapter at napa, they had it in stock. Just took my oil pump in and the gauge and they found an adapter. Bty I mounted mine in the same hole that the stock subi gauge sensor goes in; that way I was able to keep my idiot light.

I Would say that mounting the gauge in place of the pressure reliefe valve would give errorous signals, like when the valve is open or closed, just a thought. and is there really physical room for the sensor if you go off of the pressure relief?

Hope this helps

Hey Sidewayz that's a good idea. I can get the 1/8th NPT adapter that came with the guage to start into the idiot light hole but it gets hard to turn, quick. I almost forced it in for a "permanent" install but I managed to talk myself out of it thinking that it would leak. Some tap work is in my future. No idiot light on my GL so I'm gonna run both guages, Mech. and stock Elect. Thanks for the replies, fellas.

yes...it is VERY tight...but will go. and seal fine.

I just tapped the one in my justy for 1/8 NPT.

I t-ed off it for a oil feed for the turbo, then Autometer Gauge, and for the factory idiot light (also a warning light below the gauge)

Works perfectly. and no leaks
