  1. Thanks, but the props go to Subi81. I was just trying to duplicate his nice clean install after seeing the pics he posted. I spent the majority of my time for this project making a template out of cardstock. I think thats the key. I cut the mounting plate out of a rear cubbyhole door I pulled from a junkyard wagon so the color would match. Then I cleaned up the cuts on my neighbor's disc/belt sander to get the edges nice and straight and beveled so it fits fairly nice.
  2. Yeah John, let's not go on about how our original deal was for a rust free trail rig with a 5 speed D/R tranny swap, ready to rock. Or how when you delivered it, it didn't have a 5 speed tranny or how the tires that you had on it rubbed or how the alt died on the drive home. Ready to rock... right. So this is what you call "a bit of rust", and this isn't the bad spot either. There is also cancer in the Drivers side rocker making it's way up to the lower door hinge. Yeah, we renegotiated the price because you didn't delilver the product we agreed upon. If I had let you "keep it on the trailer and bring it back home to sell" I would be here trying to get the 1200$ I fronted you in good faith instead of a title. In trying to get the title, I sent you a self addressed stamped envelope because the mysteries and complexities of the U.S. Post office seem to be to much for you, but still nothing. I won't hold my breath. You, Sir, are worthless. I didn't "jew" you down or out of anything. Take your racial slurs, and shove them up your a$$.
  3. I don't believe anyone is "talking smack" or "moaning" about John's knowlege of subarus or the the quality of his work/products. In my opinion the only way to deal with john is in person on a cash and carry basis. His word or promise is not to be trusted. Many people have found this out the hard/expensive way, myself included.
  4. He owes me a title to a Brat I bought from him more than a year ago.
  5. I added it to my '86 and still had to fish the harness through the rear gate and down to a connection near the taillight. It would have been a pain to run all that stuff up to the dash and find power for it. In '89 I think the feature was incorporated into the central locking system of the gl-10's. You could pull all that stuff from a donor and add power windows while your at it. Lots a work. If your just after the rear gate, you might look into a cheap alarm system with remote locking/unlocking. There is some stuff on ebay to be had for little money.
  6. I bought a set of rims with tires for my '86 EA-82 and ran them fine for 6 months. Then I did a brake job with new pads and all of a sudden the rims hit the calipers. Turns out I had ea-81 rims, they cleared because my pads were worn and thin. Any chance the '86 sedan was running EA-81 rims?
  7. That idiot light is useless in my opinion. I ended up tapping the hole in the oil pump for the sending unit with a 1/8 NPT tap and installed a mechanical oil pressure guage. Gives lots more feedback as to what's going on with the engine.
  8. Bummer guy, rust sucks. :-\ Hopefully this will inspire you. There is hope, check out page three. http://members.cardomain.com/bratboy This guy's board name is Akira if you want to ask him questions directly. By the way, Jerry hooked me up with my rather large cancer issues. Jerry Rocks!
  9. Some EJ-22 Info: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17327
  10. Hey John, How about sending me the title for the brat I paid for over 4 months ago?
  11. Or you could build your own. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17327
  12. Being an '83 you've got an EA-81 car. The rack on Ebay is for a EA-82. It won't bolt up. Where is it leaking from?
  13. Anybody know if power steering rack boots off and ea-82 will work on an ea-81? The boots don't interchange on an ea-81 between manual and power racks and Napa/schucks/National can't find anything in their books/systems. Everything they list is for 1985+ 1.8 OHC.
  14. Here's some good reading about your ticking problem. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21477&highlight=lifter%2A
  15. Good to hear your up and running. So did you stuff that solid lifter motor in or are you still running the hydro? How's the tranny shift? Dusty
  16. Howdy, The EA-82 manuals on this site might help you out. http://www.finleyweb.net/default.asp?id=142 Goodluck and welcome to the USMB
  17. Seahag- I received the same quick responses and attention to detail initially as well. That all changed after I fronted him some money. Moose- I'm done trying to call John. Since when is blowing off customers who have paid for a product an accepted business practice? The point is that when it comes to John Bloom, Let the Buyer Beware.
  18. I bought a Brat from John back in July of this year. Since he referred me to this post during his sales pitch, I feel inclined to reply. I will never do business with John Bloom again. After telling me several times in email and over the phone that the Brat was rust free and solid this is what I got. It was covered with a piece of plywood attached with wood screws. There is also cancer in the Drivers side rocker making it's way up to the lower door hinge. This may be what the east coast calls rust free but not over here in Washington. After renegotiating the price I agreed to take the Brat with the understanding he would help to fix the rust. No such luck. John has not returned a phone call, email or private message in 4 months. To top it off, John promised to send the title for the vehicle in the mail. Again no such luck. Now, that I have talked to a few more USMB members, I realize that I’m not the only one who has had bad dealings with John. I hope this post may save someone else the trouble and hassle that I’ve gone through. You may now say “I TOLD YOU SO”
  19. Hey Monsta, You saw what ea-82 rear coilovers did to the camber on my Brat. I'm taking that crap off. They're yours if you want 'em your next time thru.
  20. I was looking for some answers to the same question awhile ago. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12912&highlight=oil+guage I ended up tapping the idiot light hole in the oil pump with a 1/8 NPT tap. I used lots of grease in the flutes of the tap and took my time cleaning the tap often. I also bought a like 10 feet of copper tubing to plumb it with. It was actually cheaper than the kit with plastic tubing which had a bunch of stuff I didn't need. Good luck.
  21. Glad to hear you made the drive back ok. That 4runner had some serious squat going on after we loaded it up. It was a pleasure meeting you and your Misses and talking some subaru today. Cute dog too.
