  1. On my wagon I found the connections for the rear speakers just in front of the door pillar down by the rear of the seat rails. Hope that helps narrow it down some for you.
  2. It's badged as a turbo but has a carb'd engine and rear drums...
  3. I'm running mechanical oil and temp guages made by auto gauge. My '86 wagon is a GL and I have a stock oil press guage, no light. I ended up tapping out the threads for the idot light in the oil pump to accept the aftermarket guage fitting (1/8 NPT). You could do the same and run a "T" fitting for both guage and light. I'm running 60 psi at 3000rpm and the temp sits at bout 205 F. Good luck.
  4. JB weld and I used some fine brass screen. Make sure to give the JB weld enough cure time and you should be good.
  5. I'm definatly no expert, but you might try advancing the timing up to 10 to 12 degrees and then retuning the carb. Also might check to see if there was power to the electric choke or not. Did you buy the redline carb kit (K730 or 731?) that is properly jetted for our application?
  6. Lots of folks on the board have added a second fan and wired like you describe or maybe like this: I think its a good mod, but no substitute for a properly functioning cooling system. Check out the main components: radiator, H2O pump, thermostat, temp sending units, hoses. If something is suspect, I'd replace it. Soobys don't like to get hot. Good luck!
  7. Just passing along info on Vin#'s that I've come across. With all the asterisks and stuff in the original post I thought it was a typo. If it doesn't help you then disregard and best of luck in your search for the correct info.
  8. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16185 Do a search for "weber 32/36" there's tons of info.
  9. I ended up using a couple of old sockets to space up the throttle cable.
  10. I like Wix. Some interesting reading.
  11. Yeah I had the same problem as well. Right after a rebuild too. Good luck Brother!
  12. By ND do you mean Nippon Denso? I'm not too concerned about the durabilty because it was free. I've got 5 bucks in bolts and about 2 1/2 hours invested so far. I might think about rebuiling this one when it craps out, to get a few more miles out of my bracket but I'm not married to the idea. I'm happy except for the weakness at idle. My main concern was to keep everything stock i.e Belt and wiring harness. I'm gonna look into a smaller pulley and then start adding some lights. Driving, Fog and Reverse.
  13. Good to hear! I'm about to do this to my wagon.

  15. I used a CS-130 GM ALT off a '91 3/4 ton truck. A more expensive alt than the late 70's model that most people are using but this one was free and it puts out 105 amps. Don't laugh at my welds. We all gotta start somewhere. Seems sturdy tho, I jumped up and down on it. The bracket makes it tight but there is still enough room to get to the spark plug. Everything was left stock so I can throw a Hitatchi back on. Since the Alt only had 2 wires, 1 to the battery and one to the guage, that left one unused on the subaru harness. Should I run this to the battery as well? This alt seems really sensitive to low RPM's too, could that be the reason?
  16. Planning a GM Alt swap. Got a freebie off a 91 GMC 3/4 ton truck plus the wiring harness plug. Puts out 105 amps. Got the bracket built now I'm just trying to figure out how to wire it with out starting a fire. The GM Alt has the + battery post on back and one wire that plugs into it. In the subaru wiring diagram below, I read "A" on alt as the +battery post. "S" is the "exciter" wire. Which leaves "L" pointing to a big A. Does A = ammeter? Is this the wire for the dash guage? The GM Alt is self-exciting, so I'm told. So besides hooking up the + battery wire, the one wire should go to the guage. If anybody sees anything wrong with my logic, please speakup and save me from myself. I'm tired of smelling burnt wire in the wagon. Thanks.

  18. I just put new speakers in my '86 GL Wagon. The fronts were 5" stock but as I said, I made 5.25" fit with some minor modification to the metal bracket. In the rear door I put 6.5" shallow mount pioneer Cheapo's. Top mount depth of 1.75". Fit just right and bolted right up. I ran all new speaker wire because I added an amp as well. If I had it to do over again.... I might try to put something bigger up front. There was quite abit of room behind the bump out for the map pocket in the door. You would have to get creative with mounting tho. I would also put in componet speakers with a passive crossover and mount the Tweets up higher for better imaging. This is actually the plan for my '86 as soon as I get some cash together. Hope this helps.
  19. Sweet. Meine Verlobte wohnt in Stuttgart. She also works for a freight for water company. I was gonna bid but if you want em, then I'll just wait for the next set.
  20. Hey WJM, You got the hook up on shipping or something?
  21. Yeah, I had to modify the bracket to get 5.25's to fit in the front....
