Esteban32696
Help ! 1992 Legacy 2.2 automatic needs a new speedometer gear. How do I get the old one out of the transmission ????
GLCraig
To get to the speedo gear you need to drop the transmission and seperate the front diff housing from it. The speedo gear is driven by the front diff. I would make 100% sure that your problem isn't something else before opening that can of worms. Esteban32696
I should have mentioned that it is a FWD car. The speedometer & cable are fine. It has to be that gear. Is the repair for a FWD unit still the same??
Legacy777
Are you absolutely positive that is the problem? The speedometer base is a very common point of failure for these cars. I replaced mine last summer. I was driving along and all of sudden it just died. If you haven't pulled that base out and confirmed it is still working. I highly suggest you do that. pic of the piece in question http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/speedocablebase.jpg
Esteban32696
I will double check all parts . Car is FWD only. Is the gear removal from the trans still the same way??
