  1. If it sat that long, the tank thru the cylinders will need cleaning. Great website for 360 owners. http://www.subaru360club.org/forums/
  2. I have a car I am interested in.Send me an I.M. THANKS !!
  3. If any of you really want to buy a good one, I have just listed mine for saleon this site. '94 w/ only 87,000 miles, with A/C ! = $1395
  4. This link will take you to a site whetre you just type in the tire sizes to recalculate the change . http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
  5. If you get BRAVE enough to start tearing it down, go here, & print out the pages. http://www.subarujusty.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=engine&action=display&thread=1171400936
  6. Yep, as Ronan said, " check those vacuum lines." My last carbed Justy had a vac line behind the carb that kept coming off . It was very hard to see,,, so every vacuum line on it, follow to make sure both ends are connected & rubber is not rotten. The Justy carb was a complicated, & $$ thing. Once you get it running " pretty good ", you may leave well enough alone. Also, make sure it has a good fuel filter, & run a dose of GOOD carb cleaner thru it.
  7. http://www.generatorsales.com/calculator_GOOGLE.ASP?gclid=CIPc6-jN54kCFRZNUAodgUX9HQ Is a wattage calculator to determine your needs. When using gen power, LIMIT your power usage as much as possible !!!! It is nothing for a gas generator to use 3 gallons PER HOUR !! I have set up several homes here in the hurricane state [ Fl. ] on gensets. I recommend an enclosed " living area." A closed bedroom, with small lamp w/compact flourescent bulbs [ should be in ALL your lites ] radio, small fan, small TV, small window a/c, or small oil filled radiator type electric heaters, are great choices. Run power to inside with heavy duty extension cords. NOT TO OUTLETS,, OR POWER METER !!! You can unplug the heater/ a/c,, plug in microwave to cook a meal, or plug in fridge to run a few minutes to keep food cold. Same with freezer. This is all easily done with a 2KW [ 2000 watt ] generator !! I have many, many years of experience with gens.Really, you get what you pay for . A cheaper one [ B & S engines, etc] will run at hi rpms, so noisy, & VERY short life. I have seen several of them blow up after 2-3 days of use, after hurricanes, here in Fl. Robin-Subaru, Honda, Kawasaki, are all good brands,, BUT, THEIR line of gensets, not just " Honda powered", etc.
  8. I got a set of dirt cheap 13' wheels off a ' Vette. No, NO, not a Corvette,,, a "Cheeevette." They looked & measured to be just about right. NOPE, front wheels caught on those " tits" that stick out. I took a Dremel tool to those & got rid of them. I could see no purpose to them & it seems much less dangerous to grind on those than the center of the wheel. The wheels fit, then, but still had the problem of finding the " right size" tire to keep from rubbing the top of fenderwell, the front or rear edge, of fenderwell. Reinstalled 12" & went to other projects.I found those wheels at a junkyard with 1/2 way decent tires on them for $5/each.
  9. What's up Ronan? I tried several ideas with 13" & went back to 12", on my older Justy. May try it again since I have a newer Justy, now. Even though another wheel may have same pattern size, the center hole MUST be as big as the Justy's wheel . On the front hub, there are a few protrusions that stick out & will not let a donor wheel fit, unless the center hole size is the same. Some people cut these off, or enlarge the hole of donor wheel. Also, I had trouble finding the right size tire that would not rub. Some were too wide, too tall, etc. You would either;; find the right 13" tire/wheel combo, alter the fenders, raise the car, to achieve the goal. GOOD LUCK !!Changing to a different size tire will also affect the power a little bit & speedometer readings. You are really changing the " final drive " ratio.
  10. A day's worth of reading about headgasket failure, here;; http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php?searchid=348438
  11. I would double-check that you have plug wires on right. Easy mistake!! If that isn't it, I would replace distributor cap, & rotor, & go from there. Carb or fuel injected engine ???
  12. Look thru this site for 13" info ;;; http://www.subarujusty.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=wheelsandtires
  13. GINGERLY ,,drive it as is! NO FAST STARTS !! Get info on how to PROPERLY service & maintain that transmission. ENJOY 40 mpg. Change oil & filter at frequent intervals, to help avoid the oil pump problem, SOME have. I haven't had a problem with one yet. I change every 3k miles. It only costs about $7 & is easy to do yourself. If oil light comes on at idle,, it is showing signs of oil pump failure. Replace right away.
  14. Really does sound like the radiator. If you flushed it, yourself, with chemicals from a parts store, sometimes they loosen up some sludge, but then it gets stopped up somewhere else. ONLY way to really clean a radiator, is to remove & take to a shop.
  15. I have bought & repaired a good many " salvage cars." One thing I like is that when I buy one, I know the damage that was done. When you buy one already repaired, you will never know everything that was damaged. Remember, it being salvaged, from a wreck, meant that the insurance company deemed it was not worth fixing ! After you buy one, it surely has to be fixed well, or you will be " stuck" too, trying to resell it with a salvaged title.
  16. Compression test. I always disconnect coil wire first.Remove sparkplugs, & hold throttle linkage fully open. You DON"T want the engine running!! If compression is very bad, or 2-3 cyclinders very weak, it won't start.
  17. UH-OH !! Time to do a compression check. HOPEFULLY, it is not bad !!
  18. & replace fuel filter, air filter,PCV valve, & check timing. Dose of " Seafoam" cleaner in tank, too.
  19. I ALWAYS suggest taking the boat rig to a scale, dropping it, & having it weighed, fully loaded like you were going out in it. Very hard to estimate weight of a boat. Then, I would not tow over about 75% of the cars recommended limits. Remember, you will have equipment/passengers in the car, too, so TOTAL weight is a factor as well.
  20. I have used the K & W I mentioned above, to seal several leaks over the years.I had a 6 cyl. Chevy pick-up that had a leak, from the intake that was almost a slight stream. I put in K & W , started it, & watched it slow down & STOP ! Over a year later, it was still sealed. One Ford V-8, had a leaking head gasket [ but still good compression]. It fixed it, too.The ONLY leak stop I recommend. A full can, 1 qt., is for a larger engine, so I only would try 1/2 that.
  21. IF it were MINE, I would flush the cooling system & add about 1/2 can of "K & W Block Sealer. "It will more than likely seal that little leak. Then, add anti-freeze & water.
  22. I am on my second Justy. First was an '88 & I sold it to a neighbor, who still drives it. VERY trouble free & it had 240,000 miles when I sold it. Never a problem with that oil pump. Now, I have a 94. It is fuel injected [ much better than carb] & it just turned 80,000 miles. Both cars were 5spd, 2wd. AVOID automatics !!!! I get 40+ mpg all the time on mine. Great car for basic transportation, etc.
